My Pazz & Jop albums list for 1988. I assume that Appetite is ineligible as an '87 release; don't know if you accept the best-ofs and the Zouk compilation. Also, if EPs are eligible you should definitely consider Pussy Galore's Sugarshit Sharp, the release of theirs where they do their best job of whisking themselves into rhythm.

Wikip and discogs agree; but I was tracking this in real time, in fact reviewed the album for Spin, so it must have been a *very* late year release, or not actually hitting stores or reviewers until early '88. Otherwise, I'd have voted it in '87 too.
Mysteriously, Alewya's album, out next week, has different track listings on Apple Music and Bandcamp. "Maktoub" is missing from the latter.
